Free Drum Kits – Linn Collection
This classic collection includes samples from one the most famous drum machines. Now maybe you haven’t heard of it, but starting back in 1980 when the first Linn LM-1 was released it was used on songs (and hits) from such notable artists as Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna, Phil Collins, Stevie Wonder and many more. To this day the sounds from this machine are still being used to make hit records, for example Justin Timberlake had a hit record that used this drum machine called “Until The End Of Time”.
The Linn LM-1 was the first drum machine to use samples of real acoustic drums and debuted in 1980 with a price tag of $5000.
This collection hosts 4 kits sampled from the original hardware including the Linn 9000 which was the grand daddy to the first MPCs.

Free Drum Kit – Ace Tone Collection
Wow. You can get much more old school than this. Ace Tone was founded in the late 1960s by Ikutaro Kakehashi, who would later go on to create the world famous Roland, makers of many well-known audio/musical products. This is the first known transitorized beat box. That is to say a electronic drum machine. Or as the user manual described it “a non-mechanical solid state electronic brain incorporating modern precision manufactured transistors”
You won’t get a lot of thumpy kicks (although it is surprisingly deep for it’s time) or super poppy snares, but you will get some authentic samples that will definitely make you sound different than the rest. Despite the look of the hardware, this little machine could handle it’s own, especially in the latin rhythms.
Layers these with some other percussion or use them to spice up a heavy duty dance beat like Timbaland does it. The key is to get creative with these sounds and know you are injecting a little history into your music with each sound. Remembers good beat makers will make the most of what they have and now you have this.
